Go Cougs!!!

Keep the Cup 2

Get your crimson and gray on! Today is the 106th Apple Cup. For those outside of the Pacific Northwest, the Apple Cup is the annual football game between the two biggest universities in Washington.

On one side we have the Washington State University Cougars and on the other the University of Washington Huskies. The Cougars come from the more rural and conservative side of the state and the Huskies hail from an urban, more liberal environment.

There are decent, educated people of various viewpoints rooting for both schools but as a lady Coug I would be remiss if I did not point out the vast number of Husky fans who root for the UW simply because it’s a local team to identify with and not because they actually owe the UW money for tuition. (That’s for the dig in church the other day when our pastor asked why a musician was wearing a WSU sweatshirt. Yes, meow.)

This year the Apple Cup is being held in Seattle, and if you’re choosing not to venture out into the madness that is Apple Cup/Crazed Black Friday Shoppers/Normal Emerald City Gridlock Because of Oblivious Drivers Who Can’t Merge, Use Their Turn Signals, or Go the Speed Limit on the Freeways/Frantic Freakish Friday traffic, the game will be broadcast on FOX at 12:30 our time (Pacific). A list of viewing parties is here

There’s a great article highlighting Apple Cups from years past on the CougCenter site.

Besides donning your crimson and gray, WSU now has an official tartan that you can sport proudly, registered in May of this year. Remember, gents, LLMK— ladies love men in kilts: WSU Tartan 1

Tartan products are available here. You can see the tartan on the Scottish Registry of Tartans site here.

Lastly, enjoy this fantastic flyer WSU Vancouver Alumni created for their Apple Cup party. Go Cougs!

The Seven Dwarfs were marching through the forest one day and they fell into a deep, dark ravine.

Snow White, who was following along, peered over the edge of the steep chasm and called out to the fallen dwarfs. From the depths of the dark hole a voice returned, “The Huskies will win the Apple Cup.”

Snow White thought to herself, “Thank goodness, at least Dopey survived!”
