KOMO News has revealed that missing and presumed murdered Susan Cox Powell made a video documenting the state of her marriage in 2008– and had a secret will and testament that told people if she dies, it’s not an accident. This is what victims of abuse and those concerned with their family’s well-being SHOULD do! If you are not familiar with the Document the Abuse website, http://documenttheabuse.com/, please visit it now. Not only should everyone know about this website, but they should share it with anyone in a bad relationship.

Note the reference in the video to Susan being a “financially and emotionally abused woman”– that’s how it can start, and death can be the end result. Don’t ignore abuse just because someone doesn’t have bruises or hasn’t been to the hospital. It’s still domestic violence and the victim most definitely needs help– BEFORE it escalates, not when it does. By then it could be too late. Also note that the fact that Susan made this video and wrote up a will shows that she knew he could kill her.  (more…)

Last Friday, convicted serial killer Robert Yates filed an appeal in federal court in an attempt to escape the death penalty again. The State Supreme Court already upheld the death penalty in this case and the U.S. Supreme Court didn’t touch that.

Now Yates, also known as the Spokane Serial Killer, claims that he had ineffective counsel that failed to highlight supposed mental illness. He also says they didn’t showcase his many positive aspects including his positive, loving relationships such as with his family members and his “acts of caring and kindness.” (more…)

SEATTLE — Susan Cox Powell’s blood was found on the tile floor near a sofa in the couple’s house in Utah, according to a search warrant unsealed on Friday.

The documents were unsealed in connection with a Washington state case against the missing woman’s father-in-law, Steven Powell. Steven Powell was arrested last year and charged with voyeurism and possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

When police first entered the Utah home after Susan Cox Powell was reported missing, two fans were setup to blow air on the sofa. The woman’s husband, Josh Powell, told investigators that he had just cleaned the sofa at his wife’s request. (more…)

Charlie and Braden Powell. From http://www.people.com.

Although a friend emailed me at 1:49 P.M. today to let me know about the Powell murders, I was busy and just heard about these deaths on the 7:00 news.

This is sick. Just sick. Two beautiful little boys who had already lost their mom died today in a fiery explosion in Graham, Washington– which authorities say was started by their father.

I’ll review the basic facts of the case in a moment, but want to note that the first question that came to mind. Why did the Pierce County judge that denied Josh Powell custody of his children four days ago and ordered a psychosexual evaluation give him supervised visits at his home? From the little I know so far, it seems that the parameters set by the court allowed this particular kind of horror to happen. (more…)
