Everyone’s heard the story by now: an abandoned puppy in Oklahoma survived euthanasia and was found alive a day later in a dumpster.
Hundreds of people now want to adopt Wall-E, and I understand why. He’s a miracle puppy, twice abandoned, and a cheater of death. It sounds like he’ll find a great home.
His siblings and cellmates at the shelter were not so fortunate. I hope that Wall-E’s story brings the plight of millions of dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, and other homeless pets to the public’s attention. Every day, all over the U.S., cute, adoptable pets, puppies and kittens included, are punctured with needles and gassed to death because there’s not enough room for them in shelters.
There are countless other Wall-Es, young and old, sitting in cages waiting for forever homes right now. Most of them are there due to human neglience– their owners didn’t spay or neuter their parents, outfit them with ID, allowed them to roam outside of their own property, or neglected or abused them. Humans delivered their death sentence; it’s not their fault.
Petfinder.com, http://www.petfinder.com/index.html , is a great place to match yourself or your family up with a suitable companion. I also have a handful of great pet rescue places listed on the sidebar. In this economy, there is a gigantic need for loving homes for Wall-Es, and they are so very worth it!

Nobody can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog. He can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes. -Gene Hill

Absolutely! Pets are the only family members you get to choose. And they’re WAY better at unconditional love than those people that share your bloodline.
