My buddies over at Celiac.com are spreading the word about Alek’s Controllable Christmas Lights.
The designer/owner/operator of these lights lets people control them via his website, with the option of making a donation to the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research. His two sons have celiac, and to date he has raised over $50,000 for the Center through this project.
While this website is visually overwhelming, if you can focus on the on/off and inflate/deflate buttons, it is fun to visit. These lights are powered by alternative energy sources if you are concerned about energy consumption.
Remember, an estimated one in 99 Americans is suspected of having celiac, with most of them undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. One in 33 Americans is said to carry the celiac gene. Awareness and funds are needed for this cause– feel free to pass the word!
