The Discovery Channel has posted a video discussing the probability of a megaquake in the Pacific Northwest within the next 50 years. This underscores the importance of being ready for such an event.

This video includes the DOT’s simulation of what could happen to the Alaskan Way Viaduct in a 7.0 earthquake. That part of Seattle is in a liquefaction zone, so I’m not sure why that city wants to bore a tunnel through there as a solution…

Washington has five active volcanoes, Glacier Peak, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and Mount Baker. Here’s some interesting links on those.
