An American was just sentenced to eight years in an Iranian prison and it’s been nearly a week since his location was accounted for. Pastor Saeed Abedini was arrested for his Christian beliefs and thrown in prison last September– Iran considers him an enemy of the state for his Christian evangelism, which was conducted primarily […]

When You Know It’s Murder

I was 10 years old the first time it happened. She was found dead at a campsite in Eastern Washington. I remember exactly where I was standing, what the weather was like, who was talking to me. I wasn’t sure how to respond. It was not surprising that the suspect was a family member in […]

HB 1185 and HB 1128

Today conservatives and open government advocates have come out swinging at Washington State House Bills 1185 and 1128. The Clark County Republicans have a good summary of the bills at their site: http://www.clarkcountygop.org/display_news.htm?nid=1062. Cats and dogs alike go racing to the window at the mention of the word “squirrel” because squirrels are furry […]

The United States Constitution just took 23 consecutive hits today as Obama signed 23 executive actions (or executive orders?) under the guise of curbing gun violence: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/16/obama-urges-new-restrictions-on-assault-weapons-magazines-as-part-gun-control/. This is the most egregious attack on the Constitution by the executive branch I have seen in my lifetime. Implementing such regulations is not supposed to be a function […]

In Praise of Parma!

Ooh num num. That’s less than eloquent, but it’s how I feel right now as I eat Parma! out of the jar with a spoon. The exclamation mark, in case you think I’m overly excited, is part of the brand name. What is Parma!? It’s not what comes back to bite you when you’ve been […]

Jesus Toned Down by the DAR

When you join the Daughters of the American Revolution, you know you’re joining an organization that is deeply rooted in our nation’s heritage, including its religious heritage.
