Venus The Dark Side

In 2008, journalist and author Roy Sheppard and Mary Cleary, founder of the Amen network that helps male domestic violence victims, released a book on female predators that turned heads. Venus: The Dark Side shines light on the inner workings and tactics of, as Sheppard and Cleary put it, queens of manipulation and deceit. Having dealt with such women both in the workplace and on my own time, I was pleased to know that someone has finally written a book on female sociopaths and their cousins. I read it over a year ago and it’s been on my to-blog list ever since.

To quote from their introduction, the type of woman they are analyzing “…is prepared to hurt innocent men, women, and even children to get her own way. Vampire

WordPress.com blogger annotoole posted the first video listed below today. After I watched it, I realized that a well-known author has posted a whole series of videos to arm the public against manipulative and abusive people.

(Sarah! When did you do this? These are brilliant! What a fun and interesting way to help people avoid and break free from those we’ve always called vampires. Well done, and I love the nods to Lindner and Cleckley. My only beef is the swearing, but I understand why it’s included.) (more…)

Last night on ABC, a Nightline Prime episode titled “Secrets of Your Mind” aired. I came upon it just as I reached for the remote to turn the TV off.

It was a thought-provoking show that sparked an interesting water cooler conversation today. Unfortunately, the show furthered a common myth about psychopaths, that “psychopath” is synonymous with “murderer”. The media and pop culture have limited our society’s understanding of this concept. Many people think that only ruthless dictators and serial killers can be psychopaths. (more…)
