New Day Dawning

Happy New Year everyone! As we enter into the veiled mystery that is 2013, I’m reminded that– no matter what– God is in control. There is no power higher, no force stronger, no love deeper, no grasp tighter, no faithfulness more unfailing. If you are safe in His love there is nothing that can separate […]

Movie Theater Gunman Shot

Deputy shoots gunman at San Antonio movie theater. This is a story that won’t get nearly as much coverage in the media as it deserves. It’s been making the rounds on the web since it happened on December 16th, but I didn’t hear about it until today. In San Antonio, Texas, off-duty Bexar County Sheriff’s […]

Secret Santa– WHO ARE YOU?!! Today I received a cheery mystery package with a return address of “Santa, North Pole.” It came in Saturday but I was unable to retrieve it until today. Because I wasn’t expecting a package, I wasn’t sure how to respond. Initially I was excited. When I saw the package, my […]

To Regift or Not To Regift?

Cue the following traumatic recollections of real life regifting situations: 1. “Oh, thank you so much for this ______. It’s our favorite.” “Yeah, dad’s boss got that for him.” (crickets) 2. “Oooohhhhh, thank you… that will look nice on the, uh, mantel, um, yeah” (trying not to let on that you bought that item for […]

Crises and Control

Want control? Create a crisis. In a crisis people are desperate for solutions and will often consent to the quickest fix to avoid further adverse effects from the emergency. Steeped in crisis-fueled emotions, reason can take an abrupt back seat (or fly out the window) because we want to be rescued.
